Texas Department of Agriculture's Food & Nutrition Division

The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) Food and Nutrition Division administers U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutrition programs in Texas. It partners with organizations across the state to ensure eligible Texans in need have access to nutritious meals through 12 USDA nutrition programs.

The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) partners with thousands of Texas organizations in its administration of USDA nutrition programs. These important partners are designated as contracting entities (CEs) and are located in every region of this great state. They include school districts, charter and private schools, residential child care institutions, child care and adult day care centers, emergency shelters, community organizations, and food distribution agencies. TDA works collaboratively with these contracting entities, providing extensive educational resources, technical assistance, and training to ensure partner compliance with federal and state regulations. Each year, approximately 3,000 TDA partners serve more than 1 billion healthy meals at almost 28,000 sites and utilize more than $200 million in USDA Foods commodities. The 20 regional Education Service Centers (ESCs) in Texas provide vital resources in this effort. With support from TDA training, ESC staff provides regional support and technical assistance to CEs participating in a variety of nutrition programs.
